how to prepare soil for Sod

Oct 29

If you're stuck and your yard is covered with weeds it's time to get it back to normal. There are two options to choose from: reseed your lawn or put down sod. While seeding might be cheaper and involve less effort, this process is more time-consuming to achieve the lush green lawn you've always wanted.

What exactly is sod?

If you'd like a sod installation phoenix in your lawn, search for a farm which farms on the same day that it is delivered. If not done correctly sod laying could be laborious and time-consuming. If it's laid within the first 24 hours after harvesting by reputable individuals who know what they're doing then there should not be any problems in terms of survival, in the event that all plants aren't killed in a different way prior to the laying (e.g., herbicide).

How do you install sod?

Remove the Old Grass

Before you lay sod, you must remove all grass or soil. For your yard to thrive it must have at least one inch of soil. You can hire a sod cutter that is basically two rectangular frames with sharp blades at one end. It cut outstrips beneath the root system, leaving behind loose dirt in the area where the cut was made. It's similar to how the rolls are delivered from farmhouses!

Prepare the soil

Soil preparation is essential to ensure a successful installation of sod phoenix. Use the garden rake (also called the bow rake) to smooth the soil and break up large chunks of dirt into smaller pieces that are simple for the new roots to penetrate and not compact it down. In order to help them connect with the native plants quickly and easily, layer layers of lawn soil on the top. Don't put them on top of existing grasses as this could cause death to both varieties!

Put the sod in place

When you lay sod, first dampen the soil with the help of a hose or sprinkler. Then, rake any footprints left by your previous patch of laid sod, then roll it on the longest edge that is not enclosed by concrete or landscaping. Make sure to remove any footprints that you've left on this next piece before unrolling another roll onto the patches until you brick-wall and join all the pieces, without overlapping them leaving no gaps between their edges!

Trim Your Edges

You're about to finish sod lying on the ground, but you might find that the edges are uneven. Don't worry! Do not worry! Simply fold the excess grass back and then use a sharp blade to cut it down. The soil should be cut from the grassy edges down to the soil, ensuring that you smooth out any spaces.

Drink plenty of water.

For two to six weeks, you should water the new grass twice daily. Then, you can take an area of grass and test whether it's moist, but not too muddy. If yes, you can continue to water in this manner until it is able to bond to the native soil beneath it. Also fertilizing it is necessary too.
